Under the Bashō 2016Stand-alone Hokku

a river
above the moon . . .
late autumn

from my chest,
jasmine petals . . .
stirring stars

a dragon
becomes a cloud?
twilight dawn

late night . . .
the buoy bells in a
gray whale's wake

deep morning . . .
a salmon waving
to stone

evening chill . . .
the mute songs of a
billion stones

mountain gorge . . .
the child inside me
swimming

tall grass . . .
a line of ants bearing
the past

midwinter . . .
slipping into a
crow's belly

child, your
twisted brown legs . . .
humid heat
