Pravat Kumar Padhy has obtained his Masters of Science and Technology and a Ph.D from Indian Institute of Technology, ISM Dhanbad. His poem, “How Beautiful” is included in the Undergraduate English Curriculum at the university level. His poems are translated into different languages like Japanese, Chinese, Serbian, German, Romanian, Italian, Irish, Bosnian, Spanish, Arabic, Balochi, Hindi, Punjabi, Telugu and Odia. He is also showcased in “Freezing the Moment: A Celebration of Haiku by Poets from India”, Scroll.in, April 2018. He holds a place of honour in the World Who’s Who (Europa Biographical Reference, Rutledge, London), Marquis Who’s Who and Who’s Who Emerging Writers 2020. He is Member of World Poets Society, United Minds for Peace Society (UMFPS) and many overseas literary journals.
He has been nominated as an International Panelist for the “Touchstone Awards for Individual Poems’, The Haiku Foundation.
He has created an innovative genre of poetry, “Hainka’, a poetic fusion of haiku and tanka, with the image linking of the ‘fragment of the haiku as the ‘pivot line’ of the following tanka.

Pravat Kumar Padhy has obtained his Masters of Science and Technology and a Ph.D in Applied Geology from Indian Institute of Technology, ISM Dhanbad. He was associated with the state-owned enterprise, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), India as an Exploration Geologist.
He has carried out extensive geo-scientific interpretation work on various petroliferous basins of India He published number of scientific papers in national and international journals. He is amongst the earliest pioneer in evolving the concept of Oil Shale Exploration and Scope for “Neoproterozoic Oil Exploration” in India. He was invited to present technical papers in the International Conference and Exhibition organized by AAPG in Vienna, 1995 and UNO sponsored UNITAR International Conference, Beijing, 1998. His scientific research on ‘Biogenic Gas of Neogene age in Krishna-Godavari Shallow Offshore basin due to Gas Hydrate Destabilization’ attracted international accolade. His special paper on Shale Oil in Cambay Basin featured in the Procc. Indian Science Academy, 2016. He has also postulated for the first time possibility of occurrence of Shallow Biogenic Gas in Mahanadi onland basin. His scholarly work on the “Concept of Petroleum Geology” records large number of viewers on Google.
He has been associated with various collaborative projects including one with the Melbourne University, Australia. His papers are cited in various journals and scientific books including AAPG, Organic Geochemistry, Arabian Journal of Geosciences, Journal of Asian Earth Sciences, Marine and Petroleum Geology, Fuel, Journal of Petroleum Geology, ‘The Biomarker Guide: Biomarkers and Isotopes in Petroleum Systems and Earth History’, published by Cambridge University Press, 2005, USGS Bibliography etc. His scientific work has been referred in research domains at MIT USA, Melbourne University, Texas A&M University, IIT-Khargapur and others. He is credited with a Special Mentions in “World Shale Gas Resources: An Initial Assessment of 14 Regions outside the United State, EIA Report, USA, 2011; Shale Gas: Exploration and Environmental and Economic Impacts, 2017; The Fossil Fuel Revolution: Shale gas and Tight Oil, 2019.
He is honoured with "Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, 2017 for Professional Excellence”.
He visits Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar for delivering Guest lecture.
Presently he is working on an innovative research project on “The Geology of Mars”.
“The essence of poetry nestles in the diligent fragrance of the flower, simplicity flow of the river, gentle spread of leaves, calmness of the ocean and the embellishment of soothing shadow. Poetry unveils the physics behind light and sound, chemistry of colour and aroma, and geological expression of the landscapes.
I aspire to present unison of scientific effervescence in poetry to usher in a pristine social renaissance and wish celebration of a beautiful tomorrow of the universal truism. The doctrine of ‘haikuism’ will usher in building a planet of nature’s paradise and abode of peace and brotherhood. Everything is in existence. I am merely a tiny part of consciousness of the stretch of time and space. I am a tiny bird dwelling in my nest, and singing songs for others and to the surroundings.”
